Integrative therapy

Integrative therapy is a way of working which combines different therapeutic techniques and theories based on the best available knowledge and research about psychotherapy.

There are many types of therapy. Research shows that there are no big differences in results between different therapy types. The most important thing is that the therapy works for you. Integrative therapy can include elements from many different types of therapy, but a common focus for many integrative therapists is the cooperation, or alliance, between client and therapist. The therapy is tailored and modified according to the clients needs to support good cooperation.

This means that therapy processes can be quite different. In some processes there might be lots of focus on childhood and early experiences, in others the focus may be on the future or on practicing concrete changes in everyday life. When working long term we might move between different areas of focus at different stages – the past, the present, the future.

Training therapy

Training therapy means that the therapeutic work is carried out as part of integrative psychotherapy studies at the University of Eastern Finland. Therapy processes are under continuous supervision with supervisors appointed by the university, and to support the supervision, all therapy sessions are filmed. small excerpts of the filmed sessions are analysed in confidential small-group supervision. the recordings are destroyed after finished studies.

In general the training-therapy process would be at least half a year long and sessions are weekly.
